The study programme Applied Zoology is focused on the use of combined methods in scientific disciplines of zoology and enables the interconnection of topical issues and scientific approaches in the management of natural resources and their protection. Students of the programme gain theoretical and practical knowledge from the field of data gathering and analysis. Based on the acquired experience, they will be able to formulate progressive procedures and identify trends in sustainable development in the use of natural resources and simultaneously avoid decreased animal welfare and deterioration of the health conditions of stocked animals, the risk of biological invasions, the occurrence of parasitic diseases and irreversible resource exhaustion.
Graduate employment opportunities
Graduates utilise knowledge gained in the following areas:
Management positions in state government and/or the private sector in agriculture, advanced aquaculture, and farms for domesticated and/or wild animals bred in captivity.
Management positions in state government in environmental protection, helping to avoid the conflict between animal production and natural resources, specifically, to reduce risks of, e.g., biological invasions, occurrence of parasitic diseases, natural resource degradation and pollution, including proposal of reasonable measures and their implementation.
Positions at research institutions focusing on monitoring the quality of natural resource management and control of animal production processes with respect to health conditions and welfare of stocked animals.
Positions at institutions using animals for services in the public sector, such as armed services and integrated rescue systems, including institutions using animals for educational purposes, such as zoos.
Profile courses
Aquariology, aquaculture, agroecology, applied fish ethology in aquaculture, applied ethology and animal welfare, applied sociobiology, biological invasions in aquatic environments, biotechnology in experimental research, management in aquatic ecosystems, scientific experiment design and processing, veterinary parasitology for breeders, prevention of livestock parasitosis, helminthology, systematic zoology. Supplementary and specialized courses based on individual study plans are also available. CZU Bibliotheca is involved in the study program.
