The Department of Zoology and Fisheries was established in 1994 and continues the long tradition of education and research in zoology and fisheries at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. The department is focused on education and research in zoology, fisheries and related areas. Research performed at the department is split into the following sections: Parasitology, Entomology, Fisheries and Malacology. The current head of the department is Prof. Ing. Iva Langrová, PhD.
Main areas of research include:
Epidemiology of Gastrointestinal parasites; Evaluation of anthropogenic loads on the environment and their impact on different groups of animals; Study of the revitalisation of non-natural habitats; Morphology, genetics and ethology of fishes; Study of taxocenoses of Diptera; Ecology and bionomics of selected species of butterflies; Biology and Ecology of water crustaceans and molluscs.
Educational activities of the department include basic courses in zoology, biology and breeding of selected groups of organisms respective of the research area of each departmental section. The department also cooperates with the Bee Research Institute in Dol. The teaching portfolio of the department includes a number of specialised subjects, with selected subjects taught in English.
