The Department of Microbiology, Nutrition and Dietetics is a part of the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources of CZU Prague. The department is focused on research and education in the fields of agricultural and food microbiology, and human and animal nutrition. The department cooperates with many external institutions, e.g. Institute of Animal Science, Institute of Animal Physiology and Genetics of Czech Academy of Science (CAS), Institute of Microbiology CAS and Institute of Chemical Technology.
Research Teaching Consulting
Research is focused on 4 main areas:
Classic microbiological techniques, biochemical and molecular genetic methods are used for evaluating the functions and ecology of bacteria in the intestinal tract.
Caco-2 and HT-29 cell lines are used for research on the interactions between microorganisms, food and intestinal epithelia.
A wide variety of subjects are taught, e.g. agricultural, food and soil microbiology, biotechnology, human and animal nutrition, dietetics, etc. The department provides around 30 subjects in total, including subjects taught only in English. The department guarantees the ‘Animal nutrition and dietetics’ Master degree course and ‘Food and nutrition’ Bachelor and Master degree courses.
The department provides consultation services concerning the evaluation of fermented milk products and drinking water. Department employees provide consultation and counseling in the areas of animal nutrition, feed and feed mixtures usage and in the evaluation of feed quality.
