Centre for the investigation of synthesis and transformation of nutritional substances in the food chain in interaction with potentially harmful substances of athropogenic origin: comprehensive assessment of soil contamination risks for the quality of agricultural products (NutRisk Centre, reg. nr. CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000845) focuses on exploring the behavior of contaminants in agroecosystem components and interacting with nutritionally important substances.
The basic research objectives of the project result from the ability to define the inputs and transformations of contaminants in the agroecosystem as a whole, as processes within each component are interrelated and interact.
Key activities focus on exploring risky elements, organic pollutants, microorganisms, rhizosphere, plants, edaphones, fish, animals, microorganisms in food and feed, modeling and analytics. It is processed by 10 research teams using state-of-the-art analytical techniques and in collaboration with foreign scientific institutions. Current scientific outputs are available in the publications library.
The project is carried out under the supervision of the scientific director prof. Ing. Pavel Tlustos, CSc. and Chair of the Monitoring Committee prof. Ing. Iva Langrová, CSc. with the support of the European Union within the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education.

Call Number: 02_16_019
Priority Axis 1: Strengthening capacities for quality research
Specific objective: 1 - Increasing the international quality of research and its results
Investment priority: IP 1 - Strengthen research and innovation infrastructure and capacity to develop excellence in research and innovation and support centers of expertise, especially those of European interest
Registration nr.: CZ.02.1.01/0.0/0.0/16_019/0000845
Project Annotation:
The aim of the project is to assess the behavior of contaminants in agroecosystem components and in interaction with nutritionally important substances; to further understand the impacts of soil contamination by hazardous substances on the quality of agricultural production. The latest methodological approaches and instrumental analytical techniques will be used to achieve the goals. Detailed knowledge of the factors influencing the behavior of contaminants in interaction with natural biogenic substances will lead to more accurate estimation of the risk of contaminants in the agroecosystem as a whole. Key activities will be realized within the research teams:
KA 1 - Determination of sources and contents of chemical elements in soil, as well as their mobility and bioavailability
KA 2 - An assessment of the sources, contents, and transformations of organic contaminants in soil
KA 3 - An evaluation of changes in the biological properties of soils due to the deposition of hazardous substances
KA 4 - Modelling of substances’ behaviour and transport, their spatial prediction and mapping the spatial distribution of substances in soils
KA 5 - An evaluation of pollutants and the effects of their metabolites on processes in the rhizosphere
KA 6 - Uptake, accumulation and transformation of risk compounds by plants, and biochemical changes in the plant organism due to interactions with these substances
KA 7 - An assessment of the effects of the investigated pollutants and their metabolites on soil micro- and mesofauna
KA 8 - Potential impact of observed substances on freshwater organisms
KA 9 - Complex evaluation of changes in biochemical parameters and quality of animal production as a result of contamination of fodder cereals
KA 10 - Influence of contaminants on the presence of pathogens in plants and livestock
KA 11 - The development and modification of analytical techniques for the determination of a wide range of substances of interest within the research programme
KA 12 - Completion of technical infrastructure
KA 13 - Development of research teams
KA 14 - Development of international dimension
