On June 24, 2024, the national round of the "Students for Food Quality" competition took place at the premises of the Czech Food Chamber. This round followed school rounds held throughout the 2023/2024 academic year. Ten students participated, nominated from individual school competitions. Representing CZU were Ing. Tereza Brousilová with a presentation on the optimization of cultivation conditions for anaerobic probiotic microorganisms, Ing. Marie Veselá with a topic on changes in tocopherols in frying media during potato fries preparation, and Ing. Alžběta Kosařová with a contribution on the development of health-beneficial products based on fresh cheeses adapted for the markets in Vietnam and the Czech Republic.
Participants had 10 minutes to present their work, followed by a short discussion where they answered questions from the panel consisting of 7 representatives from the Czech Food Chamber, CZU, VETUNI Brno, VŠCHT, and MENDELU. The evaluators focused on the quality of the presentations and discussions,as well as the applicability of the results in practice. The presentations of all participants were of very high quality. The works were divided into three categories: Food Quality and Production Technology, Food Analysis, and Sustainability and Environmental Aspects of Food Production. Two participants were awarded in the first two categories, and one participant in the Sustainable Food Production category. In the Food Quality and Production Technology category, CZU representative Ing. Alžběta Kosařová (supervised by Ing. Veronika Legarová, Ph.D.) was awarded, to whom we extend our heartfelt congratulations and thanks for the excellent representation of the university and faculty.
